Adenosarcoma of Female Genital Tract: Review of Current Knowledge with an Emphasis on Molecular Characterization
Adenosarcoma, also known as Müllerian adenosarcoma, is a rare biphasic tumour comprising a benign glandular epithelial component and a malignant mesenchymal component. Adenosarcomas with sarcomatous overgrowth and adenosarcomas with high-grade transformation represent aggressive subtypes. Adenosarcoma most commonly arises in the uterine body and accounts for approximately 8 % of uterine sarcomas and less than 0.5 % of all uterine malignancies. This review aims to summarize the current knowledge on all aspects of gynaecologic adenosarcomas, including aetiology, epidemiology and molecular markers, with an emphasis on their molecular genetic characteristics, and to identify the gaps in knowledge that future studies should address in order to improve diagnosis, assessment of biological behaviour, and patient treatment.
Keywords
Müllerian adenosarcoma, uterus, mutation and fusion landscape, sarcomatous overgrowth, NGS.
